the dice game

— getting started —

  1. The dice game is played with 6 dice.
  2. You can play with 2-6 players, or even teams.
  3. You’ll need a notepad to keep score, and a winning attitude.
  4. The first player to reach 10,000 points is the winner.

— how to score —

Most important: Players must have 1000 points before they get on the score board.

To determine who plays first, each player will roll a die and the player with the highest roll is the first player, and the order goes clockwise from there. A player’s turn consists of the following:

  1. A player can roll indefinitely, as long as they keep throwing winning dice combinations.
  2. Each player has three initial throws for an attempt to score points. Within each throw, the player sets aside the dice they want to count for points.
  3. On the third throw, if the remaining dice thrown can be used toward points, the player can keep rolling until they call their points or lose their points.
  4. Players assign their dice within a throw and once they call the dice as a certain score, they must maintain the point value first assigned.

There are 3 ways a player can score:

1’s and 5’s: This is the most singular way to accumulate points. In any throw, 1’s are worth 100 points, and 5’s are worth 50 points. The only exception is if three 5’s are thrown — those dice would add up to 500 instead of 150. {See next section: 3 of a kind.} Here are some combination examples:

3 of a kind: When a player throws three dice of the same number, they gain a score of 100X the number thrown. For example, if a player throws three 4’s, then they score at 400. The only exception is when the player throws three 1’s — in that case, the score would default to 1’s being worth 100 points each, resulting in a score of 300. 3 of a kind can only be scored in a single throw. Meaning, you can’t combine two 4’s from one roll and one 4 from another to make 400.

Three 1’s = 300 points
Three 2’s = 200 points
Three 3’s = 300 points
Three 4’s = 400 points
Three 5’s = 500 points
Three 6’s = 600 points

Straight: When a player rolls the dice, they can decide to put aside promising dice and try with their remaining rolls to complete a straight {automatic 1000 points}, which is all six numbers on the dice. If a player rolls a straight, they get three additional rolls. If a player decides to try for a straight and are unsuccessful, they cannot reassign the dice to other point values.

A combination of all six figures is a straight, and is an automatic 1000 points.
